Personality Changes
During his time here, he's had to put up with tiny reminders about his brother's death. Klados, the profiles, Dazai's questions at the trial, and finally the the circumstances of his death. Every little reminder and mistake came crashing down on him, and now he's left with a sense of self loathing. He no longer believes or tells anyone he's a pair of twins that became one, but he does properly mourn his brother's loss in private. In the long run, he tries not to let his brother's death stop him from moving on with his life.
Hyoubu's pep talk struck a cord with him, and made him wonder why he blindly accepted Danny's offer and sacrificed himself for a chance to spite the Lady. After all that's happened, he's more likely to question things that seem too good to be true. He does not like being manipulated and after nearly becoming a Void he's come to fear losing his sentience... Or worse, his entire soul.
After all of the lady's manipulation, Shin's developed a vengeful streak. He still has no qualms about killing for his art, but he's also likely to target those who he believes have gravely wronged or betrayed him. He happily draws up blueprints for multiple designs he can work his enemies into and bides his time until he has a chance to strike. If he has a chance to strike. He realizes he can't count on being able to murder his enemies, so he's fine if someone else inflicts karma first.
Shin's picked up painting as a hobby. He prefers to paint portraits, the subjects ranging from seemingly normal to deeply disturbing depending on his mood at the time of painting. It's a fine creative outlet to tide him over, and he'll occasionally take commissions for small things, but it just doesn't hold a candle to his true passion.
Shin doesn't suffer from horror hunger anymore, but he did end up acquiring a taste for vegetables because of it. Not that he has any qualms with eating meat, he just got too used to the herbivore life. Occasionally he'll try to eat a live plant out of habit, but he is content with normal food most of the time.
Physical Changes
After everything that's happened, Shin is painfully aware he's missing at least half of his soul. While this is alarming as an In-Birth, one who survived a Void attack with their sanity in tact and got supernatural powers in return, but for a while he was suffering through a partial transformation into a Void himself. While it's a blessing that condition was mostly reversed with the closing of the Hollow Night, what are the chances his past will haunt him again?
We'll describe some of his physical state in Twilight and much of his time in the Day for the sake of reference. Like most of those unfortunate enough to get trapped in Twilight, Shin had a crest where he was fatally stabbed. The appearance of the crest varied from person to person; In Shin's case, it looked a lot like someone smashed his body in and it cracked like fine pottery. The crest was very dark in Twilight, but started to fade once he made it to the Day.
More concerning to him and others were the signs of his transformation. The most obvious trait was a pair of webbed frills growing out from his elbows, semi translucent and dark blue/purple in color. They weren't too useful for flight, and he had to keep them moisturized if he didn't want them to dry out and crack painfully. A rather inconvenient addition, but he could easily hide them under his oversized sleeves if he needed to.
The most mentally scarring aspect of his curse was the hunger. He was plagued with a ravenous appetite normal food could not satisfy. His body craved life energy known as EXs, which meant he had to constantly feed on living beings... Not that there were too many of those in Twilight and he was being monitored by Wagner and his peers, which drove him to develop a habit of eating live plants. Yep, you read that right. Any plant that was even remotely edible, even from bushes and weeds. If he ever had to suffer through something like that again, he'd immediately assume the worst.
New Abilities
"KLADOS"
Shin is able to summon a doppelganger of himself at will. Although this ability should have gotten stronger upon the end of the Hollow Night and his escape from that world, Shin willingly limits himself for fear of losing what's left of his humanity.
As such, the limits of his powers are much like how they were in game:
He only summons one doppelganger at a time.
The doppelganger is limited to 3 basic movements/commands. Shin could tell it to light a fire in the church, talk about art, and do the dishes... Then that's all it will do for the duration of the summoning. It has no personality or will of its own, like a soulless doll. This shortcoming is the other main reason why Shin doesn't care for his power at all.
The doppelganger can't be poisoned, but it can be physically wounded... Once. Upon receiving damage the doppelganger disintegrates into a pile of sludge with similar consistency to paint. Like, someone took Shin's color pallete, dumped it into a bucket, and spilled it.
He limits himself to 3 summons/unsummons a day, and he will only allow the doppelganger to exist for three hours in a single 24 hour period... Though he is more than capable of letting it exist for longer periods of time if he must.
The summoning requires line of sight. Pretty useful if he gets cornered... Not so much if he gets blindfolded.
THE VESSEL
As an In-Birth, Shin's body is more like a EXs storage vessel that functions like a human body. It's stronger and more durable than an average human's which means he has cockroach powers like a certian eyeball-obsessed weirdo from his canon, but if his vessel is pierced he will be momentarily immobilized. If the vessel is outright broken (I.E. he takes too much damage) he will be be stuck in a Zero State, which pretty much means forcibly brought back down to normal.
Shin doesn't know he has this trait. Yet.
EXs SENSING
As an In-Birth, Shin is better at sensing EXs in living things. He isn't quite sure what to make of this.
Timeline
Night
Shin gets kidnapped by a demon in the middle of leading Eddie to the chapel and gets experimented on in another world. No clue how long this took, but he got bitten by Manifestations and got powers from it.
Shin wakes up in Krakow and guess what there's a fucking murdergame.
Shin goes to the Lady to try and pitch his furniture to her, but she doesn't want it. She says he can do his thing as long as she keeps the brains.
Shin tries out his power and boy did he get the power to summon a soulless puppet that looks like him. People walk in on him traumatizing himself.
MOTIVE ONE was hostage because of course it is. BORING.
Shin's contributions to the first case were drawing better dead person diagrams than Rembrandt and having to reveal his powers. Hyoubu dies smiling as he gets shot in the head.
We got art studio on week two so of course Shin decides to go here. He finds some weird art of blue eyed things running around. Neat! Guess he'll paint the dead people b/c memorial paintings.
Two more people die because of the lady, and Shin ends up just painting everyone in advance. It takes him all week. He has to send the dumb clone to Cumore's for shampoo.
Winds up sleeping through investigation 2 but hey we got the culprit at the last minute. RIP Suzaku. Also Saeleth took the hint so he has back spikes now, neat.
Shin finishes up with paintings on the third week.
Third week's motive, take powers home with you? Shin's not entirely sure about that but he wants to do some proper murder now.
Lights suddenly come on in the museum, and the t rex is roaring morse code at us. Shin is kind of freaked out by the fact the dead are still around!
Shin goes and gets Olivert drunk in the Jazz Bar. Sirius walks in, Shin tricks Sirius into killing Olivert through energy drain. Then Shin gets Sirius to carry Olivert to the opera house kitchen where the dumb clone jumps him. There's a fight, the clone goes splat, and Shin manages to finish Sirius off by slitting his throat. Both bodies are stored in the fridge and Shin gets another clone to clean up the kitchen while he goes to hide the other evidence. Including writing his finding with the Lady on Olivert's hint, shredding it up, and scattering it to the winds.
Investigation time, and OH DEAR GOD WHY DID THE CLONE MIX CHEMICALS?! SHIN CAN'T TAKE THE CHLORINE SMELL AUGH
The others figured him out too quickly, so when the Lady gives the hint he goes "SCREW IT, LET'S SEE WHAT SHE'LL DO TO A MAN WHO'S GONNA DIE!" Throws the trial, reveals he loves making horrible furniture art that freaks everyone out, and challenges the Lady to kill him herself. This ends in her stabbing him in the chest and throwing him to the manifestations in the audience...
Twilight
The next thing Shin knows, he's waking up in the Twilight with fins on his arms and a very angry knight girl trying to obliterate him. Shin has no idea what's going on, but she hurls a fireball at him... And misses... Hitting Noelle instead... And Noelle explodes. Shin's horrified by this sight, but at least the knight girl decides not to try killing anyone else. She does inform him he's now missing half his soul and closer to becoming a manifestation himself...
Shin does not take the news well. He holes himself in the art studio after his encounter with oujou-chan and starts drawing some rather disturbing vent art. Hyoubu walks in while Shin is taking a nap to steal some pens, but he wakes the artist up and they end up having a conversation... And actually, Hyoubu's words resonate with Shin. He's starting to regret killing his brother... But moving on with his life sounds like a better plan, in the end.
Unfortunate side affect to fins: Shin now has a hunger that food cannot satisfy. He resorts to eating the live plants, which actually fill him up a little better oh no. Also, Hyoubu is still a spiteful brat.
Turns out the reason the museum and McDonalds got power was because the dead solved fuse box puzzles. Shin helps everyone to power the arcade so they can talk through the racing game... And Shin finds out the Lady isn't even in her own body. Among other things.
After getting caught feasting in a greenhouse, Shin decides to start another project: Painting two portraits of himself and his brother with flowers growing from their injuries.
Olivert unlocked the spa so spa time with grandpa while they heckle the next trial.
Shin finds a thing in the boutique, then gets visited by Suzaku. As he has been on a regular basis because lizards need to be monitored.
Shin runs into Ulquiorra. It doesn't go too well.
Shin goes to investigate the art gallery, but runs into Hyoubu and Ulquiorra investigating... Whatever this is. Then this happens.
Oujou-chan meeting! Twilight is about to collapse and take everyone down with it. Shin is very worried about dying here, and everyone starts throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what can be done from this side.
Auto Shop puzzle. The dead go light the football field to yell through the marquee. They also powered the gym since no one wanted Shin to have an art studio with electricity.
Shin helps explore the Hotel.
Olivert decides it's party time! Shin ends up ruining Hot or Not with his gross hobbies.
The party turns into a trial popcorn because someone decided to hold a trial at two in the morning. Pizza suggests a drinking game, which turns out to be a terrible idea because horror hunger plus booze equals Shin getting drunk rather quickly. Shin doesn't remember exactly what happened next but he got really upset at one point before storming off and falling asleep on a massage bed.
The next "morning," Hyoubu goes to relay some news while Shin is recovering from his hangover. Something the Lady did to the Night might help them, so Shin suggests everyone split up and search for clues.
After a long day of exploring, Hyoubu and Elliot find a picture in the hotel's magazine: A Town Square that's a bit different from what they're used to. Everyone goes looking around for differences, Shin included. As he's trying not to eat the trees, Shin notices the lamp posts are buzzing with a strange energy inside the bulbs- An energy the manifestation part of him forces him to consume. It doesn't take long for Shin to realize the lamp posts contain what he thinks are souls! But Ulquiorra says it's spiritual energy. Hard to tell, he's never had to eat it before. Either way, they're saved.
Shin spends the next two days relaying info through the McDonald's drive thru and chilling in the art studio. The Twilight is in horrible shape, but luckily Ouji-chan is able to corall everyone and take them to...
Day
Wagner properly introduces herself and starts explaining her world, but it's not over yet. Everyone is 75% restored, so they're in a quarantine zone. Now it's up to the living to stop the Lady, whether the dead like it or not... At least Shin isn't that hungry here, even if he still has fins.
The uncertianty about the future drives Shin to visit the church, where he bonds with Ango over a terrible secret.
Shin spends much of the day drawn to a vision fire in the main square. He has to pull himself away for a moment, but then he returns to... Whatever this is. Turns out the lady's a mad scientist trying to take over the world and Rembrandt is a literal demon. Somehow, the living manage to kill the lady and Erik makes a contract with the demon, and this all works out.
The demon ends the Night, and Shin finally loses the lizard bits. He's not sure what he's gonna do with his new powers, but after talking to other people here he'll go back to his world and try to get back to what he was doing... Eddie probably saw Shin getting kidnapped, so maybe things might be easier to explain?
